What is a Certified Financial Planner?

November 21, 2011

Financial planning enables you to make the most of your financial opportunities.  Whether it is handling your money, clearing your debt, increasing your income, saving for retirement, or investing your money, a financial planner can help out by advising and helping you to make the best decisions.  Bear in mind that financial planning is not just for the wealthy.  It concerns all of us.  The fact is that the majority of people of all income types do not understand financial planning or how to make the best decisions regarding their money.  Financial planners help to lay out a clear strategy so that you can maximize your financial opportunities.

A Certified Financial Planner (CFP) can help you with all aspects of your monetary plans.   These individuals receive their qualification by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.  Being certified means that they have met the criteria required by the board relating to ethics, education, and experience.  They have also passed the required examination and paid the certification fees

The CFP can help you with a multitude of personal financial issues.  If you have specific problems such as too much debt, a large tax burden or if you need to borrow money then they can help.  Or if you receive an inheritance or another lump sum of cash then they can help you to handle it to your advantage.  Or if you are unsure of how to determine what financial decisions may be right for you then it will be a sound decision to consult with a Certified Financial Planner.

The CFP will begin by looking at your current financial situation – your income, expenses, taxes, debt, investments etc., and then analyze your financial possibilities.  They will also help you set sound financial goals both in the short term and in the long term.  Once they understand your goals and objectives they will be in a position to help figure out what you will need to do to meet these specific goals.

With a Certified Financial Planner you will have at your disposal a professional who has the proven knowledge to do the best possible job for you.  Be careful if you come across anyone who claims to be a financial planner, because, unless they are certified and experienced, they may not serve your best interests.  Finding a Certified Financial Planner will help put your mind at rest so that you can relax and be confident that your best interests are being looked after.
